A Salima-based Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Trust says there is a need for intensified efforts in raising awareness on the importance of cervical cancer screening among women.
The organization say many women in Malawi are dying silently because they lack proper information about cervical cancer.
A Palliative Nurse at the Trust Rex Chinzu said that the facility plans to work with the National Cancer Centre to raise awareness on cervical cancer so that more women can understand the importance of screening.
"We have established that a lot women are coming for screening with an advanced cancer, so we thought of Woking hand in hand with national cancer centre so that they can receive radiotherapy,” said Chinzu.
Since the trust began providing screening services in 2019, Chinzu said about 3,000 women have been reached, and out of these, 30 were found to be at high risk.
He added that the organization is marking its 20th anniversary this year and has lined up activities to support cancer awareness.
One of the activities is a golf tournament, where golfers will help spread messages on the importance of cervical cancer screening.
" Last year we also had Gold tournament but it wasn't as expected because the people we invited were busy with election campaign, so this time around we have hope that it will be successful", He added.
According to Cervical Cancer Program Coordinator at Salima District Hospital Precious Phiri, from July to September 2025, 78 in every 100 women went for cervical cancer screening.
Ndi Moyo Palliative Care Trust supports patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, HIV and AIDS, and other non-communicable diseases.
