Silver Strikers ladies have finished the first round of the inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership top on the log table after amassing the maximum 27 points in nine matches.
The Bankers remain the only team to taste defeat and, have a commanding seven-point lead over second placed sworn rivals Ascent Academy who have 20 points.
The team’s stellar performance has excited head coach Andrew Chikhosi owing it to discipline and application of instructions issued by the technical stuff.
He says he is still building a team which will continue to be a perennial contender in every competition.
‘‘I’m glad we are building a strong youthful team with the mentality of winning matches that come its way.
’’We are also trying the right rhythm but all in all the first round performance was satisfactory, ‘’says Chikhosi.
Ascent Academy coach Thom Nkolongo whose team is trailing the Bankers on second position says there is room for improvement such that will continue fighting.
Ascent have won six matches drawn twice and lost one against the league leaders and are followed by city rivals MDF Lioness in third place.
Lioness have 15 points acquired from four wins and three draws losing two games.
Topick Academy sitting beneath all teams with 2 points, have lost seven games and drawn twice the entire round.
The Mzuzu based team coach Kelvin Bwalaya is upbeat his team will come a very changed side in the second round.
‘’We lacked experience but I can confidently say next round we will improve in many areas,’’ says Bwalaya.
Confidence and consistency are the ingredients Topick have, so far, along with the other two teams lacked as demonstrated by the results acquired in nine matches.
Moyale sisters and MK Academy women are occupying the danger zone along with Topick, so too, after unimpressive first round with five and four points respectively on 8th and 9th positions.
