At least 500 individuals from the area of Traditional Authorities Mwadzama and Kalimanjira in Nkhotakota district have started producing Terra Preta organic fertilizer for farming and business.

These are beneficiaries of the Tikolore project which Humission Limited is implementing in the area.

The fertilizer is being sold at K65,000 per each bag weighing 50KGs.

The organization's Country Director, Pascally Tambala told Umunthu FM that the fertilizer has already been tried and results have shown it's efficiency.

"The results have been promising. This organic fertilizer is used for five consecutive years it completely restores soil health," Tambala said.

Tambala said that, currently, the organization has identified shops at Nkhotakota boma to help in selling the product besides benefiting themselves in their farming activities.

"Besides being a market venture for these individuals, it is also helping themselves in boosting their yields," he said.

He has since called on Malawians to embrace emerging Agriculture technologies including organic fertilizer, which he says restores soil health.

"Adopting new agricultural technologies is a gradual process. But we hope that the public will understand the significance of organic fertilizer," he added.

Tikolore project was launched in June 2024 and is expected to run for five years, empowering communities to venture in biocharcoal making, agroforestry and organic fertilizer production, among others.
