By Davis Major Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has called on African countries to strengthen regional collaboration in tackling disease outbreaks and enhancing collective health security. Chiponda also shared Malawi’s progress in disease prevention and service delivery during the 4th Southern Africa Regional Steering Committee (ReSCO) meeting, held on Thursday in Lilongwe under the theme “One Region, One Health, One Future: Reaffirming Regional Commitment to Health Security.” She has commended the contributions of various stakeholders in boosting the health sector through preventive measures. Africa CDC Director General Dr. Jean Kaseya acknowledged existing challenges and called for urgent need for African nations to begin producing their own vaccines for better disease prevention. He further pledged to continue supporting the region through capacity building and data-driven interventions, including the training of 100 health workers in 8 districts across Malawi for the past four days. On his part, Stoneck Zingwa, Assistant Environmental Officer at Ntcheu District Hospital, participated in the training said it is timely as it managed to address critical gaps and equipping them to implement improved strategies effectively. ReSCO brings together stakeholders from Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Angola, and Botswana in a united effort to strengthen health security across Southern Africa.
